3 year old beats garlic to a pulp!

River finally got a chance to use the big mortar and pestle. I don't think it's as much fun as he hoped it would be.

photography problem: how do I capture a moving kid in poor inside light without the use of a flash?

i'm no photographer, but i think that shot of riv is perfect... i love it when little hands move because they can't be held still. it's that blurry motion that really communicates the general energy that they're motivated by.

Cute kids! Our girls would be neck and neck in a cuteness competition: http://www.flickr.com/photos/lynnerd707/

To capture movement, set your shutter speed to 1/60 seconds for normal motion, 1/200 if River's bouncing off the walls. In low light, the image will be dark, but you can fix that in post.

Thanks for the Whiskeytown invite, but this young family will be sticking to the coast. Enjoy!
